DSTU001 Design Studio 1: Material Experimentation

Semester 23-2024
Assessment Item Name Self-critique
Weighting 20%
Due Date Week 4, before Tutorial A

Assessment item description

A description of the assessment item is as follows:

In this assignment, which occurs in Week 3, you will self-critique your first four material studies. This critique will be in two parts: the first part will focus on your own design and creative values and the second will focus on the design and creative values of the brief. The critique will be developed textually and visually, using the Miro concept map app.

Subject learning outcomes (SLOs) & Language learning outcomes (LLOs)

On successful completion of this assessment item, students should achieve the following outcomes:
SLO2 Self-critique your creative processes and work.
LLO W4 Use a more than adequate range of vocabulary, mostly appropriately, with developing flexibility and precision.

Assessment item brief

For this assessment item you are required to produce the following.

The Week 3 Canvas page titled “Project 2” contains step-by-step instructions for both of the following parts.

Part 1: A self-critique according to your own design and creative values
Part 2: A self-critique according to the design and creative values of the brief

Generative AI guideline:

We advise against using generative AI in the first part of the critique because the main aim is to identify and apply your own, unique design and creative values. We also advise against using generative AI in the second part of the critique; although you could potentially use in in step 5 (finding contexts in the readings), in our experience, it often could not find synonyms and did not maintain the authors' voices and particular phrasings of important points; we also felt as though we missed out on the opportunity to spend some more time with these interesting articles, essays, and poems! If you do choose to use generative AI in your assignment submission, you must clearly reference each instance of use. We advise that you frequently assess how your use of it is impacting your status as an ethical, independent, and unique thinker and creative practitioner. Please complete the following checklist before you submit your assignment: https://studyguides.lib.uts.edu.au/genai/ethics#s-lg-box- 22488686

Assessment item submission requirements

For this assessment item you are required to submit the following:

A URL link to your Miro page that contains both self-critique maps - make sure you have set the Miro "Share" configuration (the tab is in the top right corner) to "Anyone with the link can view"
