Assignment (10%)

Instruction:

Students are required to work Individually to write Literature Review Section of a research proposal in one of the following subareas of the field of Translation Studies:
a) Translation Technology,
b) Multimedia Translation, or
c) Translator Education.

For detailed rubrics, follow the guidelines and rubrics below.

NOTE ON PLAGIARISM: The assignments will be checked by Internet-based similarity detection services, and plagiarism will be dealt with severely. A maximum similarity index of 15% is acceptable for this assignment. Please make sure the similarity index is below 15% before submission of the draft. Plagiarism is an academic misconduct which refers to the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own. USE OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: Students may make occasional use of AI tools, for example, to aid in the search for bibliography or to improve the academic English used. When authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these technologies should only be used to improve the language or general readability of the work. It should not be used to replace fundamental authoring tasks such as producing theoretical insights, drawing scientific conclusions, or providing recommendations. All work must be reviewed and edited carefully, to ensure that the authors take responsibility for the contents, in the awareness that AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that might be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Students are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work. Students should disclose in their manuscript the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies.

Format and Style

The submitted assignment must carefully comply with the following requirements:

• Paragraph:   Double line spacing

• Length: ,2000 words approximately (References excluded)
Considerations
• Students are expected to produce a coherence and fluent piece of work in academic English and submitted to the eLearn platform in the 12th week.
• The work will be assessed in terms of academic writing, content, and style.
• Plagiarism will be dealt with severely.
• The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not allowed for producing the entire or large sections of the work, but AI-based services can be used to revise and improve the accuracy and readability of text.
• Students can consult their lecturers in case of any difficulties or questions.
• Provided that the lecturers are not sure of the originality of the submitted work (plagiarism, asking others to do it etc.), students will be contacted and if necessary, will be penalized accordingly.
Procedures
1. The students are recommended to choose a topic which is closest to their research plans and interests for the three areas introduced.
a. Translation Technology,
b. Multimedia Translation, or
c. Translator Education.
2. Students should follow the instruction and guidelines on writing literature review recommend by Lunenburg and Irby (2008) to prepare and write the literature review.
3. While reading and preparing for writing the literature review, you should:


  • Provide a historical background for the problem.
  • Support the purpose of the study.
  • Identify gaps in the literature.
  • Become aware of variables relevant to the problem.
  • Identify the leading scholars relevant to the research problem.
  • Understand the application of appropriate methodological procedures.
  • Propose useful theoretical constructs for the study.
  • Understand the seminal studies widely cited.


4. Write in a formal, academic tone, maintaining objectivity and criticality throughout. Ensure clarity by defining specialized terms and concepts. Use citations appropriately to acknowledge the work of others.

5. The work must cover and cite at least TEN (10) research articles published by         any of the translation studies related journals under the Taylor & Francis (https://www.tandfonline.com/) such as The Translator (https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/rtrn20) and Perspectives: Studies in Translation Theory and Practice (https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/rmps20).

6. Following the latest edition of APA for the in-text citations and references.

7. Write a text organized clearly under relevant headings and sub-headings.

8. Number the heading and subheadings for further clarity.

9. Make sure to organize your work to include:

a. Introduction: Briefly introduce your thesis topic and explain the scope of your literature review.
b. Body: Divide the body into subsections based on themes or categories identified earlier. Within each section, discuss the relevant literature and critically analyze the contributions to the field.
c. Summary: Summarize the main findings from your literature review, emphasizing the identified gaps and how your proposed research will address them.
