TASK DESCRIPTION

Introduction to your Task:

The whole sports industry is expected to be worth as much as $272 billion by 2026. The money is going to come from new places and new businesses especially as new technology emerges. Therefore, when it comes to choosing the right business idea in the sports industry, several criteria are paramount. Your task is to produce a business plan for a hypothetical business you might like to establish. This should be a small business in scale and should be of your own design. While your business may be similar to other established businesses it must not be a franchise.

Initial Considerations:

Whilst you will be looking for a way to get into this exciting and profitable field, you have to be passionate about sports and want to help others, then starting a sports-related business is a great way to do it. Therefore, as a business leader in the sports industry, your business idea must consider the following:
• Following your passion in sport in order to design your business idea;
• Being your own boss in order to determine your business direction;
• Making a good living as your business model must be a profitable one;
• Helping others by offering products and/or services that help people.

Top Tips:

• Allow plenty of time (Term 2 and 3) – Not only do you need to gather all of the information required but then you need to sit down and put it together in the right way.
• Start with a template – a good business plan template is an excellent starting point to help you to build your Sports Management Business Plan (See template example provided in support of this Assessment Brief on ELE Module Page)
• Keep the plan clear, precise and professional – Your sport business plan represents you and your business, so it is important to deliver the right impression.
• Avoid too much detail in the main body of the plan. Keep the body of the document clear and accurate with references. Then, include any supporting information/documents in the appendices section (if applicable).MODULE OUTCOMES

8 Assess sport business practice and research as it relates to the internationalisation strategies of sports organisations.

USE OF GenAI

AI-supported – ethical and responsible use of GenAI tools in the development of an assessment is supported. This may include using GenAI tools to summarise literature, improve the structure of your work or quality of English language.  All use of GenAI tools should be acknowledged in a statement submitted with their assessment and referenced appropriately. Students are asked to keep a record of the tools, prompts and outputs used so they are able to produce these if necessary, at a viva and demonstrate how they have built on this content to ensure the work is original.

Whilst use of GenAI is not prohibited for this assessment, students are advised to use with caution. The originality and uniqueness of each individual dissertation, requires students to thoroughly understand, apply and critically evaluate research theory to practice independently and using secondary and/or primary data individually and in a focused way, aligned to the research proposal, objectives and methodology. Using GenAI may weaken and/or limit evidence of your personal and independent understanding, analysis and critical interpretation of the research process, which may impact on your grade potential.

Acknowledging and referencing GenAI tools
It is important that you acknowledge that you have used GenAI tools in your work. You also must make clear how you have used these tools. Failure to do this may result in Academic Misconduct.

Please see the LINK HERE for further information and clarity regarding a student declaration statement which should accompany assessments where GenAI has been used.Generic criteria for assessment for RQF Level 7 (Masters Programmes)
