TASK DESCRIPTION

The whole sports industry is expected to be worth as much as $272 billion by 2026. The money is going to come from new places and new businesses especially as new technology emerges. Therefore, when it comes to choosing the right business idea in the sports industry, several criteria are paramount. Your task is to produce a business plan for a hypothetical business you might like to establish. This should be a small business in scale and should be of your own design. While your business may be similar to other established businesses it must not be a franchise.

On submission of the assignment, your group will be required to declarethat the work is their own and that all sources have been properly acknowledged.

The University uses originality software called Turnitin to check student work. Your work will be checked against all published materials (including websites) as well as being checked against student work from Exeter and from other institutions. It is not expected that you receive a score of zero, your work will be assessed by an academic member of staff who will check that all of your sources are correctly referenced.

You project document must designed in a professional format and with a combination of theory and industry evidence as per the Assignment Brief. You will use a Business Planning Template(see the ELE section – Template - Sport Management Business Plan) to structure and completeyour plan. The Business Plan Template Guide provides a full description of what should beincluded within each section.

Note: Use the Sport Business Plan Template provided on ELE to complete your plan. You mayadd additional elements to your plan, but students must incorporate the core elements of thetemplate.

Note: ±10% is in effect for this plan. Bibliography, title page, table of contents, abstract,appendices, tables, and graphs are not included within the word count.

The electronic submission of your Project Document MUST be submitted no later than the deadline provided. Late submissions will incur penalties.

Please note it is your responsibility to check that you have submitted the correct assessment.

The Assessor will not inform you and you will receive a grade of zero for the wrong submission.

All requests for mitigation (extensions) must be submitted within one working day of the assignment deadline (working days are Monday-Friday not including Bank Holidays). Please note your module tutors are not able to grant extensions or advise on the likelihood of an extension being approved.

AI-supported – ethical and responsible use of GenAI tools in the development of an assessment is supported. This may include using GenAI tools to summarise literature, improve the structure of your work or quality of English language.  All use of GenAI tools should be acknowledged in a statement submitted with their assessment and referenced appropriately. Students are asked to keep a record of the tools, prompts and outputs used so they are able to produce these if necessary, at a viva and demonstrate how they have built on this content to ensure the work is original.

Whilst use of GenAI is not prohibited for this assessment, students are advised to use with caution. The originality and uniqueness of each individual dissertation, requires students to thoroughly understand, apply and critically evaluate research theory to practice independently and using secondary and/or primary data individually and in a focused way, aligned to the research proposal, objectives and methodology. Using GenAI may weaken and/or limit evidence of your personal and independent understanding, analysis and critical interpretation of the research process, which may impact on your grade potential.
