ULMS310 becoming a Leader
Leadership Portfolio – Critical Reflection and Development (50%)
Formatting: Font 12, double-line spaced
Task: For this assignment, I would like you to reflect on your learning throughout this module.
- What traits do you possess and how do they help/hinder your leadership effectiveness/development? And WHY?
- What leadership behaviours do you tend to engage in? Evaluate their effectiveness and explain WHY they have a particular impact on outcomes?
- What challenges do you foresee in your leadership journey? And WHY?
- What are key areas you’d like to develop as a leader and how will you go about your development?
In answering (some of) these questions, you are encouraged to reflect on your overall learning from the module and adopt an eclectic approach that incorporates traits, leadership behaviours (e.g., contemporary leadership theories and approaches), and leadership development. Excellent assignments will show depth and breadth of understanding and application of what was discussed in the module to their own leadership journey.
To assist you in this coursework, you will have the opportunity to fill several self-diagnostic tools throughout the course and discuss your results and reflections with others.
The coursework is assessed using the following criteria:
Structure and Presentation and Referencing (40%) – this assesses the extent to which the portfolio is coherent, clearly written, and themes are integrated. This also assesses the extent to which your main propositions for development are supported by sound and reliable evidence from the literature.
Depth of Understanding (30%) – this assesses the extent to which you make appropriate and effective use of the different leadership themes and diagnostic in assessing you own leadership behaviour. This also assesses the extent to which you demonstrate sufficient depth and breadth in your application of leadership theories and the overall content of the module to your leadership portfolio. This also assesses the extent to which the application of themes and frameworks is accurate and the conclusions derived from this application are sound.
Critical Reflection (30%) – This assesses the quality of your arguments and how well you synthesise different views and/or evidence as you engage with the leadership literature. This also assesses the extent and depth in analysing the challenges and the opportunities of your own leadership potential and how well you consider contingency factors as you draw your conclusions.
