When is the MST paper released and due for submission?
The paper is available for download from Moodle from 11am Monday the 26th of August 2024. Head to tile “Assessments” in your Moodle page. The due date is 1pm the same day.
Is the MST open book?
Yes, the assessment is open book where you download the document from Moodle, complete it at your own time and submit your response by the due date.
Can I discuss the assessment questions with other people?
No. This is an individual assessment. You must not discuss with other people inside or outside the unit, or share your work with other students. Such action may constitute academic misconduct and result in severe consequences.
Can I use generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools?
In this assessment, you must NOT use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to generate any materials or content in relation to the assessment task.
This whole assessment task requires students to demonstrate human knowledge and acquisition of foundational skills in Python programming and quantitative investment analysis without the assistance of AI.
If there is evidence that an AI tool may have been used in producing the submitted work, we may investigate the case for potential academic misconduct.
Generative AI maybe used during your preparation for this test, or in other assessments in this unit.
What is the format of the paper?
The exam is in the form of a Jupyter Notebook with extension ipynb, which is the same format that has been used for the tutorials and seminars throughout the course.
What are the forms of responses?
Responses must be included in the Jupyter notebook. Calculations are to be performed in a Code cell whereas textual response is to be typed in a Markdown cell.
Importing of packages
Although not specified in the assessment materials, you are required to import necessary packages before commencing your coding.
Is there a hurdle requirement for BFF5525?
No, there is no hurdle requirement for this unit.
Is a formula sheet available for MST?
No. As the assessment is open book, you have all resources available to you.
What is the structure of the MST?
The MST will comprise 3-4 questions to be marked out of 20. Similar to the weekly tutorials and assignments, each question will have several parts. A mark breakdown for the parts is provided in the questions.
What will be tested in the MST?
Content from Week 1 to Week 5 inclusively.
How do I prepare for questions requiring coding and computation in Python?
To enable efficient execution of the MST, you should have a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of Python covered in the first 5 weeks. Make sure you are comfortable with the materials covered in the weekly tutorials and exercises.
How many decimal points should I round my answers to?
Unless a question specifically asks you to round (for example, round the final answer to two decimal places) then it does not matter.
WillI have to comment on my Python code?
Yes. It is important that you briefly describe the purpose of each major part in your code. Use the Homework Exercise and assignment solutions as a guide. When writing a function in pyfin, ensure to provide a brief description of the function and its input and output in the function’s docstring.
How do I submit my work?
Upon completion of this assessment task, upload the Jupyter Notebook This submission must occur by the due date stated above.

When will the result of the MST be released?
We endevour to return the mark within 2 weeks.
What if I am sick during the window of the MST?
If you have exceptional circumstances beyond your control, you maybe eligible to apply for special consideration. Refer to this link
