ISYS1000 Introduction to Business Information Systems
Trimester 2A, 2024
ISYS1000 Assignment 1(30%)
Due: Week 5 Sunday 23:59
In this individual assignment, you will use the Information Systems Description Framework (ISDF) to analyse an Information System within a selected real-world business. This analysis will involve providing detailed descriptions and diagrams to illustrate the components and operations of the system.
The Information Systems Description Framework (ISDF) is a structured, step-by-step process for describing the components and processes of an Information System.
To complete the assignment, you must use the provided assignment template. Using the template is compulsory. The template includes descriptions of the tasks involved in various sections of the document, which you should use to begin constructing your ISDF.
One of the marking criteria assesses your intelligent use of a well-formatted, properly functioning template. Learning to use MS-Word effectively will be a valuable skill for your future.
Note: Remember to remove the descriptions from the final submission of your work. Marks will be deducted if any explicit parts of the template giving directions regarding headings and sections are still present in your submitted assignment.
Assignment Tasks:
1. Selection of an Organisation: Choose an organisation that has implemented an Information System to address a specific business need or optimise its operations. Ideally, select a real-world, realistic example—preferably within the scope of a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME). The best option is to choose your own workplace if you are employed, or a business you frequently interact with.
2. General Description: Describe the overall function or purpose of the information system.
3. External Description: Describe the inputs, outputs, and boundaries of the Information System.
4. External View Diagram: Create a diagram summarising the external components and interactions of the Information System.
5. Internal Description: Detail the information processors, information stores, and internal networks within the Information System.
6. Internal View Diagram: Create a diagram illustrating the internal workings of the Information System.
