Summary

Supporting a plurality of information cultures in a digital data driven world is emerging as a key challenge for organisations, communities and individuals. This assignment is aimed at getting you to reflect on the cultural characteristics of organisational information systems, and the impact on the communities that it serves.

For this assignment you will write a short reflection on the information cultures impacted by a given organisational information system.

Assessment Criteria

Criteria for assessment:

1.   Degree to which reflection demonstrates understanding of Information cultures concepts.

2.   Ability to analyse a given information system in terms of the information cultures it may impact.

3.   Ability to communicate in a culturally sensitive manner

Trove is operated by the National Library and serves as a centralized hub for discovering and accessing historical and cultural materials of national and local significance.

The Services Australia Information System is a government-operated system that manages the delivery of national social welfare programs and services. Services Australia are responsible for administering various income support payments, family assistance, and other related services to eligible individuals and families.

3. For the information system selected, write a reflection on the information culture(s) that may be involved.

  • Compare and contrast different information cultures in the case study, drawing on specific examples from the case;
  • Note any Indigenous-related information cultures that may be impacted; and
  • Justify your assertions using the framework described in Choo (2013) to describe the culture(s). Ideally, use examples from the Information Cultures literature, using appropriate citing/referencing.
