COURSEWORK 100%-INDIVIDUAL PORTFOLIO
Please read the entire coursework brief to ensure you understand all the requirements before you begin.
TASK SCENARIO
You are employed as a network consultant at Computer Systems and Networks Design Consultant.
An innovative architecture firm is undergoing a significant transformation following its recent merger with a prominent interior design company. As part of this integration, the firm is moving into a newly acquired three-story building. The ground floor will feature the design studio, which requires connectivity for eight drafting stations and five reception and collaborative spaces. On the first floor, connectivity is needed for ten private offices, thirty open-plan workstations, and a multimedia conference room. The second floor will be dedicated to specialized design rooms, each with six drafting stations and two private offices. Effective network integration across these diverse workspaces is essential for fostering seamless collaboration and efficient project management in this dynamic creative environment.
TASK 1 REPORT WRITING WITH DESIGN &PLANNING COMPUTER & NETWORK SECURITY
A. Draw the current LAN network for the above case description.
B. Create a LAN topology diagram for this organization undergoing relocation to a new facility. Illustrate the LAN plan, design, and implementation sketch necessary for seamless transition and efficient network performance in the new environment.
C. Write a report on a network plan and configurations having following sections:
i. Analyse the need for the network for above case study. Investigate and propose a suitable complete network design for the case study.
ii. Create an appropriate framework and standards for the planned network. Write a detailed setup of network devices only for a LAN.
- For example, if each sales office has less than 25 nodes but may grow toover 35, what switch would you recommend meeting the current requirements?
- If the headquarters segments have 35 users each and will not grow toover 52 nodes. Draw out the topology for a possible solution. Update the topology with Cisco products for this building WAN/LAN that uses switched ports and Fast Ethernet media.
D.Draft a comprehensive implementation plan detailing the configurations of each networking device involved in the entire network setup. Detail the respective networking devices for executing each configuration task within the network setup.
i.Which category of network topology would you propose? Explain with reasons.
ii. Which network criteria you will consider as important for the network and why?
iii. Describe in which OSI Reference model the network device hub function and list functions of that OSI layer.
iv. What type of network cable is proposed to be used to connect between Desktop and network device?
v.Identify and list the number of networking devices available in the topology diagram.
vi. Have you proposed to use a Router device in your topology diagram, give the reason why you have or have not used a router.
E. Demonstrate and compare at least 2 configuration results which may include at least two switches/routers and two PCs on physical networking devices.vii. Which class of IP address would you propose for the network? Propose an IP address plan for the network.
viii. Identify & list of types of physical of topology that are used in the proposed network.
TASK 2.PRE-RECORDED VIDEO PRESENTATION
Each student must work independently and provide a 10(TEN) Minute pre-recorded video- Presentation or perform a live presentation during last lesson.
- Your presentation is your proposed solution must be completed with learning refection to be presented to the lecturer.
- There is no restriction as to the number of slides or word count of your presentation. Presentation Video must be uploaded by 5"January 2025.
- A 5-minutes Q&A will be conducted on last lesson.
i.A report with at least 2500 words and not exceeding 3000 words(excluding cover page, Table of Content, references, Annex/Appendix) and clear diagrams using Cisco Packet Tracer, draw.io or MS Visio or any tool.
ii.A pre-recorded video presentation (not more than 10 minutes) of the new system by 5th January 2025 by 12noon.Q&A during the last lesson.

ANNEX B ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Each of contents in the coursework report will be marked using the following scale:
Report contents -Assessment Criteria |
Grade Band |
Excellent coverage of issues with good exemplification and a complete list of references along with Turnitin report. Clear signs of excellent understanding of the theme, requirements. Excellent articulation of points/views/comments and rigorously evaluated, - Suggests research methods for optimal incorporation. Independent analysis, observations, and comments, final report clearly represent a development of the lab tasks. |
70-100% Excellent |
Very good coverage of issues with some relevant exemplification with adequate references. Very good in terms of comprehensiveness and darity, builds working model capable of essential functions. Very good use of external sources to support points brought up. Very good signs of independent analysis, shows how each lab task fits together. |
60-69% Good to Very Good |
Adequate coverage of issues with little exemplification. Good effort. builds reasonable scale presentation. Clear and covers the obvious points coherently. Some effort at use of independent judgement and external sources of information. |
50-59% Satisfactory to Good |
Unclear coverage of issues but little exemplification, provides brief outline of approach to problem. Effort in covering important points mostly gathered from textbook and lecture notes. Scattered efforts at using information gathered from extemal sources. mostly with a purpose and sometimes with no clear purpose. Simplistic or slightly unstructured /confused presentation. |
40-49% Pass standard |
No relevant material or very little relevant material. Fails to present relevant points satisfactorily to answer the specific questions. Confused presentation and unclear language. Produces chunks of information from the sources with no signs of having assimilated the information. |
0-39 Unsuccessful |
