Assignment Overview:

The primary goal of this project is to provide students with practical exposure to creative content production through 2D animation. This medium encourages students to explore their creativity in visual communication and storytelling while introducing them to currenttechnology trends. Through active participation, students will gain hands-on experienceand develop a deep understanding of the significant impact visual storytelling can have intoday's interconnected world. The objective of this assignment is for students todemonstrate the ability to use animation techniques to create an engaging, visuallyappealing, and effective commercial that communicates the brand’s message and appeals to its target audience.

Learning Outcome:

Analyze and experiment with creating a novel and unique media solution.

Task:

In this individual project, you are required to create a 30-seconds 2D animated  commercial for a brand of your choice. The project encompasses all phases of animationproduction, from pre-production to post-production, and the entire process should be documented as an e-portfolio.

Requirements:
1. Brand Selection:
a. Choose a brand that interests you.
b. Submit a brief proposal (1-2 paragraphs) explaining your chosen brand and why you selected it. Include the brand’s target audience and key message.
2. Theme, Message and Concept:
a. Develop a clear theme and message for your commercial that aligns with the brand’s identity.
b. Design a concept and a storyline for the project that suit your theme and brand’s format or identity.
3. Storyboard
a. Create a storyboard outlining the key scenes and transitions in your commercial within a minimum of 10 panels.
4. Animation Production:
a. Produce a 30-second 2D animated commercial using industry-standard animation software (Adobe Animate and Adobe Premiere).
b. Include sound effects, voiceovers, and music where appropriate to enhance the commercial.
c. Ensure the animation is smooth, visually appealing, and effectively communicates the brand’s message.
5. Submission:
a. Submit the final animation in MP4 format, with all the productions components is documented in e-portfolio. (Share all project files, including Adobe Animate and Adobe Premiere files, via an online platform such as Google Drive or OneDrive)
b. Include a one-page reflection on the animation process, discussing your creative choices, challenges faced, and how you addressed them. Discuss your brand choice, creative process, and how you ensured the commercial aligned with the brand’s message.

Within a good flow of a story, the animation should display character activities, other than any other animated elements. Do integrate in the final animation of all the copyright and list of the production team [including producer, director, illustrator, animator, editor etc] in theend credits. Please include Taylor’s University logo in the video opening. The final animation shall be published in.MP4 file format. Resolution shall be in Full HD – 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). E-Portfolio should completely establish all the requirements listed above.

Notes:
• Your soundtrack should be originally recorded (either voice over, sound effect orbackground music) using sound editing software, original scoring, or royalty-free music with permits/ related matter.
• The video must avoid the use of inappropriate or potentially offensive language or visual that may provoke sensitivities within specific groups or communities.
• Watch out for Punctuality, there will be a penalty deduction of mark or a downgrade if you not meet your dateline.
• Late submission link shall open after the first submission link closes and yoursubmission will be deducted 0-20% for each day (late/delay).
• Hence, after the late submission link closes, all submission will grade as 0%.
• Submission is only accepted through MyTimes. Submission through othermethods/channels won’t be entertained.

Assessment Criteria:

Storyline/Interpretation of the theme (10%), Storyboard (10%), Design (Concept,Character, Props, Background and E-Portfolio) (30%), and Animation (50%).

One (1) PDF file (.pdf) with the following pages:
a) Assessment Cover Sheet (1st page)
b) Title of Video, Duration of Video, The Title of the Animated Commercial/Eportfolio together with the url (2nd page)
c) Reflection Report (3rd page)
