The Case Study to be used for this assessment is CJ Foods: The Path to Global Food Leadership
Task: Attempt all questions in the task. All IBUS1101 Global Business materials are examinable. Use of the Case Study is essential when answering the task questions.
The task is:
After reading the Case Study, thoroughly answer the following questions:
Use appropriate theories, frameworks, concepts, and ideas to support your answers.
Question 1 CJ Foods has expanded globally across many cultures, creating a large multinational enterprise (MNE). Discuss and evaluate how culture has impacted the strategies and decisions that CJ Foods have made in their expansion plans. Provide examples in support of your answer. Question 2 The acquisition of Schwan’s in the US has provided a large market and huge potential for growth. Using Porter’s Five Forces (1979) framework, analyse the competitiveness of the industry in the US and assess the level of the rivalry. Porter’s Five Forces are (1) Bargaining power of suppliers, (2) Bargaining power of buyers, (3) Threat of new entrants, (4) Threat of substitute, and (5) Industry rivalry. Question 3 Develop a SWOT analysis of CJ Foods, considering the “Looking Ahead” section of the Case Study (Page 14). The Group Chairman, Lee, contemplates the “nextsteps” needed to transform the Multinational into a “global leader”. What recommendation would you give Lee? What is the “right blend” and “how flexible could CJ Foods be …” What are the opportunities and challenges that they might face? |
Rubric: A detailed marking rubric will be used to grade this assessment, it can be found below. Your assessment will be marked based on this rubric and in accordance with the Business School Assessment policy.
Research: This is a scholarly task and needs to be supported with appropriate research, this should include a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed journal articles, from the Australian Business School Deans Council (ABDC)
Journals, less than 10 years old.

Referencing: APA 7 E. style must be used for all references. You can access more information about using APA by referring to the University Libraryon this link. The case study can be referred to by the “company name”
(published year) with page numbers provided to demonstrate where the evidence is from. An example could be Company ABC, (2020), page 4. Students do not need to cite the case in the reference list. All BUSS1000 materials need to be cited; unit Modules need to be referred to by module number i.e. Module 3.5.
The Final Assessment:
• Must not exceed the maximum word count of 2300 words, excluding the Reference list,
• Submissions must be in Microsoft Word, file type .doc or .docx only, all other file types might be referred to Academic Integrity,
• The assessment must be submitted in English,
• The file submitted must have a name that consists of the unit code, tutorial code and the student Id number (SID), an example could be “IBUS1101_CC01_123456789”,
• Ensure you submit the correct file and not a work file,
