Dhingra and Rodriguez observe that Asian American contemporary issues are shaped by the intersecting forces of Asian and U.S. histories, contemporary transpacific connections, and patterns of economic opportunities and social inequalities in American society. Relying on a close reading of Yen Le Espiritu’s study of Filipina Health Care professionals and Susan Eckstein and Thanh-Nghi Nguyen’s study of Vietnamese manicurists, write a critical essay that examines how these two case studies reveal the social forces and immigrant creativity that shape Asian American economic life.
