Assessment Brief: The learning outcomes of this module are defined on page 2. Please constantly refer to these, as they are what you are assessed against. The digital sessions are going to especially relevant and so attendance is essential.

A trend is ‘A general direction of development signified by collective behaviour indulged in by a large group’ (Kraimod. 2024) ‘Fashion trends theory’

This module introduces you to the essentials of trend forecasting with an emphasis on micro/product trends. You will examine the changing role of the futurologist, whose task it is to pinpoint the zeitgeist. The module will have you develop an understanding of the anatomy of trends, the process of spotting and communicating trends, and how they inform brands, helping them to anticipate changing consumer demands and support the development of products.

Digital Project Requirements: Created in InDesign & saved as a single landscape high-res 3 Section PDF. Aswell as a cover page, ensure you include an interactive contents page/navigational menu for your assignment. All interactivity needs to by clearly identifiable by the reader.

1. ABOUT TREND Written in approximately 1500 words and in the third person tense. Be sure to evidence critical awareness (including use of theory) when demonstrating your understanding of the following:

What is a trend? What are the different types of trends? Futurologists create trends, but how -what is the process? Where do futurologists look for signposts to the future? How do fashion companies use trends? Ie what impacts do trends have on 1) product developers, 2) marketeers, and 3) consumers (what is the adoption process?) How might different market levels interpret the same subplot? And, finally, what is the future of forecasting, specifically in the context of artificial intelligence and social media?

1. REFERENCE LIST (created using Harvard referencing system), BIBLIOGRAPHY & APPENDICES for section 1.

2. INTERACTIVE DIGITAL MEGATREND Created to an equivalent to of 1000 words, you will:

· Research and create a; a seasonal product trend for 2026 (mega trend). Choose one GEN Z YOUTH MARKET focus (Men, Women or Gender Diverse) Choose a SECTOR - (Festival or Clubwear).

· Some of this research will come from existing tradeshow reports, street style images and early colour guidance that you will find on BlackBoard, but you must also be sure to include your own primary imagery and secondary research in the form of cultural, social and/or technological drivers of fashion change.

· Your product trend must have one main theme but four different looks (SUBPLOTS OR CHAPTERS x4).

· So that your product trend is useful, each subplot/chapter will need clear direction in terms of COLOUR, MATERIALS, KEY GARMENT SHAPES, TRIMS/HARDWARE/DETAILS, GRAPHICS, and/or PRINTS

· Most importantly, you will need a list of INFLUENCES for each subplot that will act as your reference list for section 3. To confirm, you do not need a Harvard reference list for Section 3.
