Assessment 1: A Research Project Plan (1,200 words, 30% of mark)
Students choose a form of music that they are involved in or familiar with, and write a plan for an ethnomusicological research project focused on that form of music. This demonstrates understanding of the kinds of research question that ethnomusicologists ask and the methods they use for answering them (as covered in the initial weeks of the module). It requires each student to apply this understanding to their own topic.
Students may choose whether or not to make this plan the actual basis of their second assignment.
