Coursework Part A – Project Initiation
You are required to carry out the initial work to identify a project. This is individual work.
Reward: 40% of the module mark
Background: Your final year project
Use your final year project (or an idea based on such a project) and consider a proposal to develop a system which implements some aspects of the system as a commercial product. The resulting project should involve software development, hardware acquisition, implementation and roll-out. Most importantly, this is extending your project idea into something bigger. It should be big enough that the project will involve a team of people. Discuss your idea for a project with the tutors before committing to the following tasks:
Task: Prepare a report with the following sections.
1. Describe the proposed project and answer the following
a. What kind of product could you develop?
b. Who might want to buy it?
c. What would clients be buying?
d. What would be the combination of hardware, software, services?

2. Provide a list of stakeholders for your project. For each one briefly describe their interest in the project.

3. List the project objectives or goals.

4. Produce a top-down Work Breakdown Structure for the project.

5. Give an example of a risk associated with the project, in each of the following categories (5 examples in total):
