Pitch Bible Document (50%) |
|
Assessment 1 Overview |
|
Create a ‘Pitch Bible’ document proposing a 30-45 second animation film for Assessment 2. On page 10, there is a breakdown of all the sections you will need to include in your Pitch Bible.
You must choose ONLY ONE inspiration text from the list of texts on page 5, as the basis for both Assessment 1 & 2.
Deliverables: PDF file submitted to MDIA2000 Moodle site, containing a minimum of 12 pages (A4), comprising the Pitch Bible.
Due Week 5, Sunday 6th July. |
What am I proposing?
You will be developing and producing one major project across the term. This project is divided into two stages, submitted as Assessments 1 & 2. For the major project for this course, you will be proposing, making and submitting a 2D Animation that is a minimum 30-45 seconds duration.
|
2D Animation refers to a hand-drawn digital animation, a stop-motion animation or a hybrid animation that is a combination of both of these. Please refer to the Assessment 2 brief for more details. |
You are planning, proposing and developing this animation as though it is intended to become part of a bigger storytelling installation of your choice. NB: While you are describing ideas about your installation in Assessment 1, you do not need to make this installation, just your animated piece of choice.
You may approach this ‘imaginary installation’ in a number of ways. For example:
- Your animation will be publicly displayed on an outdoor screen as part of an urban festival or installation
- Your animation may be the opening title sequence for a live action series or film
- Your animation is designed for projection on architecture in Sydney CBD
- Your animation is part of a bigger immersive installation artwork at an Art Gallery
And many more…
|
Assessment 1 (50%) is a proposal for an animated film - describing what it is, how it will look and how it belongs in a broader storytelling installation of your choice.
Assessment 2 (50%) is the submission of this film. |
What is a Pitch Bible?
A Pitch Bible is a detailed document designed to outline a project currently in development, in order to attract interest, funding and support for the completion of the project.
Your Pitch Bible should demonstrate the artistic, technical and social/cultural value of your animated short film for Assessment 2, what pre-production and production steps have occurred up to this point, as well as the story, planned future, presentation, and further requirements of the production. This will effectively communicate the story of your project in totality - creatively, technically and in a commercial framework.
You are expected to include extensive research, demonstrating your full understanding and formulation of the project through url links, images, etc., with appropriate referencing.
Your Pitch Bible also must visually represent the aesthetics, tone and style of the project through appropriate decisions in formatting, colouring, font, pictures, etc. You must give the reader a sense of the completed project, demonstrating the look and feel of the short film, while effectively presenting information with clarity.
This is all to build any reader’s confidence in your ability to deliver a holistic and comprehensive project - a practice in multitudes of industry and creative contexts. It is a demonstration of your capability as an artist, organiser, storyteller, original creative thinker, and researcher.
How do I use the Inspiration Text?
Your chosen inspiration text will become the basis of both your Pitch Bible, and your Assessment 2 animated short film.
You may interpret the inspiration text in a number of ways. For example:
- A literal visual adaptation / conceptual visualisation
- Creating an abstract work utilising elements of the original text, such as sound, tone, specific phrases, etc.
- Creating a figurative work inspired by narrative elements of the original text, such as sound, tone, specific phrases, etc.
- For the musical texts, animating to the progression of music
And many more…
No matter which text you choose and how you plan to adapt it, it is important that throughout your Pitch Bible (and your Assessment 2 animated short), you demonstrate a clear and considered connection to the inspiration text. This means explaining how your original idea came about from your engagement with the text, and the thinking process that brought you there.
You must be able to justify the connection, highlighting your unique understanding of the inspiration text and how you intend to incorporate this into both assessments. This will result in articulating your comprehension of both the storytelling and animation processes within your project.
