ASSIGNMENT 02
CPG Packaging
In this assignment, you will design a line of consumer packaged goods (CPG). CPGs are produced in large quantities and generally have a short lifespan, lasting days or weeks. They are sold by retailers in brick-and-mortar stores and are often designed to stand out on shelves. The CPG market is highly competitive, with limited shelf space and low cost to switch brands. Consumers may switch brands based on price, availability, and other factors.
This means you will select a product line whose individual products frequently purchased and replaced by consumers. Examples are: food, snacks, beverages, cosmetics, cleaning prod-ucts, tobacco, etc. Your selection will include 5 - 7 different products in the same category, or flavors, or types.
You’ll step through the process outlined below and present a PDF containing the deliverables listed below.
01 - Research - Visit a physical store to research a line of consumer packaged goods (CPG) such as snack foods, cosmetics, or beverages. You’re looking for how the product stands out on the shelf and why, identifier, color, imagery, etc. And how do they differentiate between product types, like flavor, size, or level (standard, advanced or pro)?
02 - Select a product to design, either an existing product or a proposed product. It must be a CPG with at least five variations (flavor, size, level). The instructor needs to approve your selection. Collect all the information/content that needs to appear on the packaging, front and back.
03 - Begin ideation and design. Develop or redesign the identity, imagery, and typography. Consider the system needed across the product line.
04 - Design development, including stylescape and guideline.
05 - Deliverables - Mockups of at least five variations on a CPG product complete with actual content, along with the stylescape and guideline, presented and submitted in 16x9 PDF form
