Perusing Assurance (Auditor’s) Reports
Objective
The objective of this assignment is to develop critical thinking skills in the review and analysis of sustainability assurance (audit) reports. The deadline for companies required to disclose by International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) to have their sustainability reports assured is fast-approaching (targeted for 2030). This individual component of the case study will provide students insights into the auditing process and credibility enhancing mechanisms of sustainability reports.
Requirements:
1. Selection of an Assurance Report:
Choose one sustainability audit report issued in 2023 or 2024 from a company’s website except Commonwealth Bank, BHP or Telstra. These companies will be discussed in Week 8. This way you are looking at other assurance reports. If you cannot find a sustainability assurance report of a company, you may start from the list of companies we covered in Week 2 and Week 3.
2. Review the Assurance Report:
a) Identify the company, the assurance provider, and the type of assurance provider (one Mark). Please attach the assurance statement as an appendix to your report.
b) Identify the scope and objectives of the audit. What areas, processes, or departments are covered by the audit? Are there limitations on scope of work mentioned in the report? What is the type of assurance provided (limited or reasonable assurance. (2 Marks)
c) Review the key findings of the audit. Highlight the most critical areas where issues are found. Did the auditors note any deficiencies? Were there instances of non-compliance with policies or regulations? (2 Marks)
d) Provide your critical analysis of the audit report particularly on climate related disclosures. Do you think the audit was comprehensive and explain why so? (one mark)
Submission Guidelines:
• Length: The report should be one page report. Cover sheet and appendix excluded from page count.
• Format: Submit the report in a Word document or PDF format on Moodle assignment link.
• Due Date: 5pm 15 November 2024

• Clarity and Structure: Ensure that your report is well-organized and clearly presented.
• Completeness: Ensure that all requirements [a) to d) above] are addressed.
• Quality of Insights: Provide thoughtful conclusions and insights based on the assurance report.
• Adherence to Guidelines: Follow the provided instructions and submission guidelines.
