Consider the following incomplete Microsoft Excel worksheet that models an Income and Cash Flow Statement for a company, the worksheet has the known components:
• C2: It is the tax rate of Type A companies
• C3: It is the tax rate of Type B companies
• C4: It is the tax rate of Type C companies
• C5: It contains the Maximum Tax Refund.
• C8: It is the type of the company. The value can be either “A”, “B”, or “C” .
• B9: It is the Tax Exemption of Year 2021.
• C11: The Minimum Cash on Hand.
• C14: It contains a formula to find the Beginning-of-year Cash on Hand
• C15: It contains the Sales of this year.
• C16: It contains the Cost of Goods Sold
• C18: It contains the formula to find Income before Taxes
• C19: It contains the formula to find the Income Tax Expense before Tax Refund. If the Income before Taxes is smaller than or equal to the Tax Exemption, it is zero. Otherwise it depends on the Tax Rate and the Income before Taxes.
• C21: It contains the formula to find Net Income after Taxes
• C22: It contains the formula to find NCP.
• C25: It contains the formula to find End-of-year Cash on Hand
• C28: It contains the Beginning-of-year debt owed.
Complete the above worksheet by entering formulae in the spaces provided below.
1. C9: It is the Tax Exemption of Year 2022. It depends on the type of the company and the Tax Exemption of Year 2021. If the type is “A”, the Tax Exemption is increased by 25%. If the type is “B”, the Tax Exemption is increased by 15%, otherwise it is increased by 5%. (2 marks)
2. C10: It is the Tax Rate of Year 2022. It depends on the type of the company and the corresponding Tax Rates in C2, C3, and C4. (1 mark)
3. C20: It finds the Income Tax Expense after Tax Refund. Tax Refund is only applicable if the type of the company is “A” or “C” . If the Income Tax Expense before Tax Refund is smaller than or equal to the Maximum Tax Refund, it is zero. Otherwise it is the difference between the Income Tax Expense before Tax Refund and the Maximum Tax Refund. (2 marks)
4. C23: It contains the formula to find the Line of Credit Borrowing from bank – Amount borrowed from bank to maintain minimum cash required (if needed). (2 marks)
5. C24: It is Line of Credit Repayment to bank – Amount of debt repaid to bank out of excess cash (above the required Minimum Cash on Hand). (3 marks)
